For Des Moines City Council Position #4

Why Politics?

That always seems to be the first question I’m asked. The answer is simple, I have no desire to be a “Politician” my desire is to support the great City of Des Moines! I want to make a difference in our community, in the city where we are raising our children, in the town where we see potential around every corner!

As a 20yr resident, I vow to continue to help Des Moines become the city we all yearn it to be. A place where our families feel safe, there is a sense and feel of community, where citizens and businesses thrive, all while protecting the quality of life and character of our amazing city!

Residents of our community know what a special place we live in. We are fortunate to be located in an area that has expedient connections to everywhere, minutes from the airport, I-5, other major thoroughfares and waterways. We have public, easily accessible, walkable beaches and waterfront property, along with majestic views of Mount Rainier, the Cascades and the Olympics! We have full time and seasonal Marina Moorage along with overnight guest moorage available for convenient access to the Des Moines Creek Trail, Des Moines Beach Park and the Des Moines Farmers Market (Saturdays, June — September.) But with all of our incredible natural resources and phenomenal location many of our businesses are still struggling to prosper and properties are still standing vacant. This is something I am working diligently to remedy!

As a local building contractor and former business owner and employer, I understand the struggles and can relate to our local businesses. Bringing my construction and building experience and knowledge to the dais, enables me to assist in making important decisions on the development and direction of the city. With young children in the Highline Public School District, I understand the challenges facing our youth and I long to create a bright future for the next generation.

Passion, Drive, Knowledge & Commitment!

About Me:

Occupation:
I am a Construction Superintendent for a major Contracting Company in Seattle, a former Des Moines Business Owner and current Des Moines City Councilmember.

Community Steward:

From Chili Cook-Offs to WatchDOGS, to Shop with a Cop to National Night Out to community planting events, I am actively supporting the community, schools and programs I love!

I Pledge To:

  • Support government services that protect our community and keep it running smoothly.
  • Encourage business development and economic growth in our community.
  • Promote the Waterfront, Marina, Redondo and Downtown Core to spotlight Des Moines as a “Destination City” for visitors, residents and businesses.
  • Connect with residents and businesses to ensure transparency within the community.

Decade of Dedication:

Your City Council has taken great strides over the past few years to simplify processes, refine regulations & ordinances and update building & zoning codes, all in an effort to ensure safety for our residents and to attract and retain businesses and jobs in Des Moines. The future revenue from these businesses are vital in our efforts to keep essential Police, Parks & Recreation, and Senior Services available for our residents.

Notable successes of the last few years:

  • Creating a sustainable budget.
  • Adding additional police officers, the Redondo Substation & K-9s to our department.
  • Funding necessary programs for street paving and nuisance properties.
  • Partnering with local municipalities & community groups to engage the Port of Seattle to address airport impacts.
  • Utilizing jurisdictional government partnerships in the reconstruction of the Redondo Boardwalk.
  • Working with businesses, investors and property owners to develop or redevelop within our city.
  • Bringing a two month pilot project passenger only fast ferry between the Des Moines Marina and Downtown Seattle’s Bell Harbor Marina.
  • Expanding Green/Public Space at Midway Park, Mary Gay Park, Overlook Park, along the Marina Floor and more.
  • Revitalizing and Restoring the Des Moines Beach Park Picnic Shelter and Dining Hall.
